讓步的副詞子句

表示→雖然/儘管...，但是/卻

Although + (副詞子句 S + V ) , S + V 雖然...卻... 

though + (副詞子句 S + V ) , S + V 雖然...卻...

though比較口語，也比較常用，但較不正式

兩者都可以放在句首、句中，當作附屬連接詞使用

另外，though可以當副詞使用(意思是：不過、可是、然而)，此時就能放到句中與句末，不可以放句首喔！

而although就沒有這種用法

例如

He's a bad manager. There's no reason, though, to dismiss him. (他是個差勁的經理，但沒有理由因此將他免職)由兩個逗點隔開！

It's hard work; I enjoy it though. (這是件苦差事，不過我倒很樂意做)。 放在句末！

這兩個句型也可以調換位置成 S+V although/though S + V，如此就不用逗號

或者寫成S + V , but S + V，把附屬連接詞換成連接詞but，也就是說though跟but不可同時出現

還有一種寫法，主要在強調所講的這個名詞、形容詞或副詞：N./adj./adv + as +S +V,S+V

e.g.

Though he is disabled, he still looks on the bright side of life.

=He is disabled , but he still looks on the bright side of life.

=Disabled as he is, he still looks on the bright side of life.

even though：可以看到這個詞組多了一個字「even」，特別強調所連接的副詞子句，語意上通常用在強調「（落空的）期待」。

e.g Even though the exam was easy, I failed.

這裡可以看到使用 even though 時，特別強調「（落空的）期待」。

e.g Although the exam was difficult, I think I did well.

= I think I did well although the exam was difficult.

although 可以放在句首或是句中，但是要注意放在句中，前面不需要打上逗號。

e.g I think I did well though the exam was difficult.

= Though the exam was difficult, I think I did well.

= The exam was difficult. I think I did well, though.

though 與 although 用法一樣，但是 though 可以放在句尾，要注意的是，如果要把 though 放在句尾，前面主要子句以及副詞子句必須拆成兩個獨立的完整句子。

介詞片語 (despite = in spite of = with all =for all )+ 名詞，用法語意基本上完全一樣，可以互換

e.g Despite his best efforts, the man just couldn’t succeed.

= The man just couldn’t succeed despite his best efforts.

= In spite of his best efforts, the man just couldn’t succeed.

= The man just couldn’t succeed in spite of his best efforts.

despite 與 in spite of 用法一樣，可以放句首或句中，後面接上名詞。

e.g Despite being on time to the lecture, we were still not admitted.

因為 despite / in spite of 詞性是介係詞，後面只能接上名詞或是動名詞做受詞。

1.雖然他很富有卻選擇樸實的生活

Although he is very rich , he chooses to live/lead a simple life.

2.雖然他已經雇用一名菲律賓館家，但他依然自己做飯

Though he has hired a Filipino housekeeper , he still (cooks/does the cooking) himself.
